There will come a time where you will stand in front of your wardrobe, wondering what to wear. Clothes that fit a few weeks ago now hang loose. That said, your goal weight is still a few pounds away, so is it time to invest in a new wardrobe?

What not to do, is to keep reaching for those same old baggy clothes. No matter where you are in your weight loss program, clothes can make you feel and look slimmer and inspire you to lose more weight! Some people use new clothes as a reward for losing certain amounts of weight towards your end goal.

What Should you Buy?

Concentrate on flattering, well-fitting basics: such as black trousers with a bit of stretch or a flattering, elasticated waist that is easy to take in with mix-and-match tops. The cut of the clothes you choose to wear matters too: when an A-line skirt gets a little loose, it will still look far more flattering than a baggy, oversized pencil skirt.

If you don’t want to break the bank for clothes that will be discarded a stone down the line, browse for bargains at online auctions and charity shops, or ask your friends if you can borrow their clothes.

More Tips for Looking Good While You Lose

Use a belt to cinch in the waist of those trousers that are starting to feel loose.

Choose colours you might have shied away from before. Match black bottoms with bright, interesting tops and you’ll look and feel fantastic.

Knitwear has a bit of stretch and so adapts to changing sizes better. Treat knits with care and they will look great for a long time.

Mix it up: wear long with short. Mixing longer blouses with shorter skirts and shorter blouses with longer skirts elongates your body and gives you great proportions.

Treat yourself to a new handbag with an adjustable strap. When your handbag sits higher than your hip and is in proportion with your body (you’d be surprised how much you can fit in a smaller handbag), even your accessories can make you feel fabulous.

If you are off on your holidays, buy bathing suit separates. Choosing tops and bottoms separately means you get a flattering fit all over. Choose black or navy and splurge on the cover-up.

Don’t be tempted to buy something just because you can get into it – ask a trusted friend how it looks on you.

It’s not just the clothes you wear, glowing skin and gorgeous nails can make you feel a million dollars. Pampering is important, so why not book in for a manicure, a pedicure or a facial?

Size isn’t everything. Don’t focus on a target size, find clothes that fit you and make you feel good. Clothes marked with the same size at different retailers can be vastly different, like age, clothing sizes are just a number.

And what about your old clothes that are now too big? Get rid of them, the sooner, the better!
